I didn’t realize birthdays were special occasions until I entered the foster care system. I came from a really poor family so we didn’t celebrate birthdays or other holidays, but after entering the foster care system I realized that people did celebrate birthdays and they were a big deal. Unfortunately in the foster care system, birthdays are not a big deal for foster children and they are not celebrated. -
